Abstract

Urdu, as a dynamic and evolving language, is not only a medium of communication but also a vessel carrying social, cultural, and regional identities. The local dialects, accents, and speech patterns in different regions of Pakistan form an integral part of the linguistic landscape, reflecting not only the linguistic diversity but also the social meanings attached to these variations. This article delves into the concept of maqaami bol chal ke lehzay (local speech accents) and explores how they contribute to language identity and the social perceptions they evoke in Pakistani society. The study examines the interaction between dialectal variations and social markers such as class, ethnicity, and education. The research methodology incorporates both qualitative and quantitative data, drawn from field observations, interviews with native speakers, and sociolinguistic surveys conducted across various provinces of Pakistan. The findings reveal that these local accents play a pivotal role in shaping individual and collective identities, influencing social interactions, and contributing to both in-group solidarity and out-group discrimination. This paper offers valuable insights into how local accents reflect the linguistic and cultural diversity of Pakistan, with implications for language policy, education, and social integration.
