Abstract

Metaphors are an integral part of any language, serving as a bridge between abstract concepts and the tangible world. In Urdu literature, metaphors play a significant role in enhancing the depth, beauty, and emotional resonance of literary works. This article investigates the role of metaphors in Urdu literary texts from a linguistic perspective, exploring their use in poetry, prose, and narratives. By analyzing a selection of Urdu literary works, this study aims to examine the linguistic mechanisms of metaphor creation and its impact on the interpretation and meaning construction in the text. The analysis draws on theories of linguistics, cognitive science, and literary criticism, highlighting how metaphors shape the understanding of reality in Urdu literature. This research also discusses the cultural and historical factors that influence metaphor usage in the Urdu literary tradition and how these metaphors reflect the societal, political, and emotional landscapes of the time.
