This scholarly article examines the phonetic changes in Urdu over time, focusing on the comparison between ancient and modern dialects. The article investigates these changes at various levels, including vowel shifts, consonant modifications, and prosodic elements, comparing older forms of Urdu with its contemporary usage. The historical development of Urdu phonology is contextualized in terms of its historical origins in the Mughal era and its transformation in the post-colonial period. The study highlights the sociolinguistic factors influencing these phonetic changes, such as urbanization, media, education, and migration, and their impact on the standardization of the language.
